How to Remove Nail Polish Stains

How to remove nail polish stains

Nail polish looks great on your nails but isn't quite as nice on your carpet or upholstery. If you do need to remove a nail varnish stain then take a look at our key steps and tips to stop your carpet being ruined forever.

How to get nail polish stains out your carpet

  • It might seem like the logical solution but nail polish remover may not be the best thing to use. Most nail polish removers contain acetone which is very powerful and will damage some fabrics so we would advise that you don't use this method.
  • Like dealing with the majority of stains it's important you act fast.
  • Scrape as much of the excess nail polish as you can without forcing it into the pile.
  • Apply amyl acetate (it's available from most pharmacies) to the stain and cover with an absorbent pad dampened with amyl acetate.
  • Keep moist and let stand for about 15 minutes, blotting occasionally. Scrape to help loosen the stain.
  • Flush carefully with a dry-cleaning solvent or Afta Cleaning Fluid.
  • Allow to thoroughly dry.
