How to Remove Nail Polish Stains

How to remove nail polish stains

Nail polish looks great on your nails but isn't quite as nice on your carpet or upholstery. If you do need to remove a nail varnish stain then take a look at our key steps and tips to stop your carpet being ruined forever.

How to get nail polish stains out your carpet

  • It might seem like the logical solution but nail polish remover may not be the best thing to use. Most nail polish removers contain acetone which is very powerful and will damage some fabrics so we would advise that you don't use this method.
  • Like dealing with the majority of stains it's important you act fast.
  • Scrape as much of the excess nail polish as you can without forcing it into the pile.
  • Apply amyl acetate (it's available from most pharmacies) to the stain and cover with an absorbent pad dampened with amyl acetate.
  • Keep moist and let stand for about 15 minutes, blotting occasionally. Scrape to help loosen the stain.
  • Flush carefully with a dry-cleaning solvent or Afta Cleaning Fluid.
  • Allow to thoroughly dry.

Sleep easier at night knowing there's no dust mites lurking in your home

We like to think that our Dust Mite Anti-Allergen Spray is the most effective and safest product available today for the surface treatment of dust mite allergens. The ingredients used in the spray are derived from naturally occurring extracts found in plants.

Our Dust Mite Spray is perfect for to help you remove dust mites living on your:

  • Carpets
  • Upholstery
  • Bedding and mattresses
  • Other household furnishings

The spay is available in a 22oz can size and is specially formulated to last up to 90 days! It works instantly by targeting and deactivating the allergens found in dust mite droppings.

It could be this dust mite...

But if you don't fancy cuddling up with him (because lets face it he's no Brad Pitt) then take a look at our top tips to help you get rid of dust mites.

Have you ever woken up from a night’s sleep with itchy skin and irritated eyes?  How about a stuffed up nose, sneezing, difficulty breathing or even a headache? If so you could be one of the 12 million people in the UK with an allergy to their own home!

Dust mites are present in all houses in the UK and are the cause of 85% of allergic reactions in asthmatic children.

Make sure your home is a brighter, cleaner, healthier environment with our simple steps to dust mite removal

Best Ways to Remove Dust Mites

There are lots of different methods you can use to get rid of dust mites. Depending on how serious your allergy is and how important the removal of dust mites is to you, what you do will vary but some of the best way to kill dust mites include:

  • Vacuum all furnishings using a high suction cleaner
  • Wash bedding, covers and soft toys at 60 degrees
  • Use allergen-proof covers on mattresses and pillows
  • Ventilate your house well to lower indoor humidity
  • Use an effective Dust Mite Spray
  • Make sure your carpets and upholstery are totally clean (we can help you out with this one)

Who are you sharing your bed with?

It could be with up to 2million dust mites....and their waste!!!

The household dust mite is not anybody's first choice of a bed mate but there might be 2 million of them hiding in your mattress ready to snuggle up when your fast asleep. Its a common misconception that the irritation that dust mites cause is due to their bite but in actual fact it's their waste that people are allergic to.

Recently the news had been full of stories about the current 'Dust Mite Epidemic' in Britain. Take Gabrielle Crabb and his story on how he copes with his allergy and comments from the NHS about dust mite allergies as just two examples. Allergy UK estimates that a massive 12 million people in the UK are now allergic to their own homes with the majority of these allergies caused by the tiny dust mite.

This figure has not been helped by the fact that in modern homes dust mites have thrived, especially those incubated by central heating with little ventilation. Usually dust mites can be found hiding in the bedroom, where a single mattress may contain more than two million dust mites!

The situation has become so severe that doctors revealed plans last month to expose babies to dust mites in an attempt to halt the rising issue. Experts hope that exposing babies to the common bug will strengthen the defenses of the next generation.

Get to know the Dust Mites Living With You

The house dust mite is nearly impossible to see without magnification meaning that nearly 100,000 of them can live in a single square yard of carpet! They primarily feed on dead skin shed by humans and other animals but they can also absorb moisture from the air. A single dust mite produces about 20 waste droppings each day, each containing a protein to which many people are allergic. Disgusting!
